Letting Go

I once got a “would you rather” question. It asked, “Would you rather marry a random person for the rest of your life, or somebody new each year?” To me, the answer was obvious. I’d choose to be with someone new each year, because I didn’t want to risk dealing with a lazy abusive idiot for the rest of my life. With this choice, I might’ve met a really nice and amazing person, but I would have to let them go after a year. This is quite sad, but it reminds us to cherish the limited time we have with a person. To those who know me in real life, for the whole of 9th grade, you had never seen me without my puzzle piece necklace. You might’ve never noticed it, but I had never been without it since my 8th grade graduation day. I had been at my old school for 10 years, from preschool all the way up till 8th grade. My school was very small, and everyone was very close. I knew the names of every student at school. Our grade was one of the most “complete,” meaning a large majority of our graduati...

An iPhone’s Life Journey

Image
Today my new iPhone arrived! It is a 13 mini, the same model as my old one. Why didn’t I get an upgrade or a nicer phone, you ask? Because I love mini phones and I feel that the larger ones are too big, and more expensive. This is what my old phone currently looks like. You may be shocked by how damaged it is. Let me tell you the story of how, after only a year and a half, I need a new phone. Once upon a time, when a younger Enya was watching Youtube, an ad for a phone case brand, Mous, came up. It depicted testing their phone case very extensively using extreme measures, such as dropping a phone (with their case) from cliffs and helicopters. I was absolutely amazed. I vowed to get their phone case when the time came for me to get my first iPhone. Finally the day came. It was March 18th. After receiving my acceptance letter to Exeter, I had earned myself my phone of choice. The newest iPhone mini model, the 13. I happily went to buy myself a Mous phone case and Mous screen protector...

(Un)Productivity: Observations and Fixes

Note: I am writing this article as a 15 year old, from the perspective of a 15 year old. I originally wrote this for my AoPS blog , where the readers are mainly middle and high school students. For the past two days I have done about 4 hardish physics questions per whole empty summer day of studying (think ~12 hours). These questions should take around 30–60 minutes each. Obviously, this is not good. Like really not good. I have tried to combat this by turning in my electronics to my parents, using only my iPad for study streaming on Twitch . This was an attempt to hold myself accountable by simulating the feeling of being watched. The intention was to encourage myself to be more productive while studying. I shared the link with my parents so that they can yell at me to focus from across the house if I zone out. But unfortunately, it didn’t work as well as I hoped. However, I definitely think staring out a window is better than staring at a screen. So I thought about why, and how...
